Edit and add related records from the Relations tab
From the record page, edit the cells of related records directly, or add a new related record without leaving the page.

Permission to edit the related record
- You need: Permission to edit the related record
Steps

Open the record and choose the Relations tab.

Click a cell in the related record and edit it. Cells that can’t be edited show as locked.

To add a new related record, press Quick add in the relation panel, and fill in the required fields. See Add a new related record from inside a record (quick add).

Save.
The save counts as a normal edit: rules and automations run, and the rollups on the original record update.
When a cell is locked
Reason
What it means
Field type
Calculation, serial number, lookup, rollup, relation, file, image, and the source, session and ad fields
No permission
Your edit level is “Denied”
Not your record
Your level is “If responsible”, and you’re not an assignee of the related record
Not in your team
Your level is “Team-wide access”, and none of its assignees is in your team
A required field doesn’t accept an empty value.

The cell is locked
The field type is computed, or you don’t have permission to edit the related record.

“The record has changed since it was read”
A teammate edited the related record before you.
Reload and try again.
A real example
Shield Security Co.
The situation
The manager reviews a client’s contract and wants to update the status of its three visits.
What they did
- From the Relations tab, he changed each visit’s status directly.
The result
The number of completed visits on the contract updated straight away through the rollup field.

Good to know
Quick add shows the name, the view columns and the required fields. Details in Add a new related record from inside a record (quick add).
You must be able to see the original record to add to it.
