How it works
What’s copied
Details
Field values
Computed fields are calculated again
Files
A separate copy of each file
Assignees
Only if you have the assign permission; otherwise you become the copy’s assignee
Links
The links the copy is allowed to hold
Catalog line items
At the catalog’s current prices
The copy is a new record, with today as its created date. Duplicating doesn’t send assignment notifications.
A manual duplicate is never merged by the duplicate rule.
If something goes wrong
What you see
Why
What to do
“You own the copy — assigning it to others needs the assign permission.”
You don’t have the assign permission, so the assignees weren’t copied.
Assign the copy later, or ask for the permission.
“Some attachments couldn’t be copied.”
Some files failed to copy.
Upload them to the copy by hand.
The duplicate button isn’t there
The feature isn’t turned on, or you don’t have the add permission.

The situation
Similar maintenance contracts for different branches of the same client.
What they did
- The manager duplicated the first branch’s contract, and changed only the address and start date.
The result
The second branch’s contract was ready in a minute, instead of filling in 15 fields again.
A made-up company, to show the idea. The numbers are rounded.
Good to know
Links stored on the other record stay with the original and don’t move to the copy.
Linked records you can’t see are left out of the copy.
Up to 1,000 links per relation.
Catalog line items that are discontinued are left out.
The name with its suffix is up to 255 characters.
Bulk duplicating works like the bulk actions: up to 100 straight away, and the rest in the background.
