Create a new document template
In the Document Generator, press New document, name it, choose the unit it prints from, its language and paper, and how to start: a blank page, a ready-made template, a Word or PDF file, or a description for the AI.
Before you start · 1 thing · for owners and managersA unit with the records you’ll print
- You need: The permission to create document templates
- A unit that holds the records you’ll print. See Create a unit from scratch, with Cortex AI or from a template.
Steps
How it works
The language you choose sets the writing direction, and the direction sets the language of automatic formatting: in an Arabic document, month names are written in Arabic, and so are the totals’ labels “Subtotal”, “Tax” and “Total”.
The name, language and paper can all be changed later in the editor. A category isn’t chosen in this window: from the document’s menu in the Document Generator, choose Rename and details… to rename it, set its Category (only for organizing and searching) or change its direction.
If you change the template’s unit later (press the document’s name in the editor, then Change unit…), the move status on save setting is cleared, because it belongs to the old unit’s fields.
A template for the classic designer is created with Add Template under Settings → Document Templates instead. See The classic designer: templates with fixed elements.

A real example
The clinic needs an appointment confirmation letter in Arabic, and a report in English for insurance.
- An “Appointment confirmation” document that prints from “Appointments”, in Arabic, started from a blank page.
- An “Insurance report” document on the same unit, in English, started from a ready-made template.
Every employee picks the right template from the same record.
