The basics from the Cortex Units guide
- You need: The permission to create units
- Get the idea first in Cortex Units: records, fields and relations.
Steps
1
In the sidebar, next to Units, press Add New Unit (+).
2
Choose how to create it: From Scratch, Start Using Cortex AI so the assistant suggests the units and fields, or From a complete system template (see Install ready-made units from the template catalog).
3
Enter the Unit Name, choose the Icon, and type a Description if you want.
An alert shows right away if the name is already used by an active unit.
4
Save.
The unit is created with the Name, Status and Description fields, and the shared Tag field shows in it. See The built-in fields in every unit, and the Tasks unit.
5
On the Fields tab, add your fields. See Add, edit, reorder and deactivate a field and Field types: the full list and when to use each.
6
On the Relations tab, link it to other units. See Link units with relations.
7
Check the roles’ levels on the new unit. Your roles get Allowed, and every other role gets If responsible. See Create a role and set its permissions.
What happens when you create it?
The unit gets its own table and a fixed ID that never changes, even if you rename it later. So renaming is safe: views, automations and attached files don’t break.
The default field labels are written in your interface language at the time you create the unit (Arabic, English or Turkish), and you can edit them afterward.
After you create it
Reorder the unit in the sidebar, or put it in a folder. See Organize units in folders.

What to do
“A unit with the same name already exists”
The name is used by another active unit.
Choose another name, or deactivate the old unit.
Good to know
The name is 1 to 100 characters, and the description up to 500 characters.
A name can’t repeat among active units when you create or rename one, and uppercase and lowercase count as the same. Deactivating a unit frees its name.
Duplicating a unit and installing from a template both allow two units with the same name. See Duplicate a unit or folder, with or without its records.
