Embed custom HTML code in a dashboard

Paste HTML code (an analytics snippet or a full page) to show it inside an isolated frame on the dashboard.

4 min

You need the “Embed custom HTML in dashboards” permission in your role. The default Admin role has it.

Before you start · for owners and managers
Edit access to the dashboard + the “Embed custom HTML in dashboards” permission in your role
  • You need: Edit access to the dashboard + the “Embed custom HTML in dashboards” permission in your role

Steps

1
Make sure your role has “Embed custom HTML in dashboards” (Create a role and set its permissions).
2
In Edit layout, press Add widget, choose Embed and press Continue. In Content source, choose HTML.
3
Paste the code in HTML, press Continue, then press Add widget.

Anyone with the HTML permission can paste harmful code. Give it only to people you trust.

How it works

The code is saved and shown exactly as it is, with no changes or cleanup. It runs inside a fully isolated frame: it can’t reach your page or your account, and it can’t read your data. It carries a “Custom HTML” badge.

The permission is checked before the code is read, everywhere it’s written: adding the widget, duplicating it, duplicating the dashboard, and installing a template.

Someone without the permission can still install a template that has HTML widgets: they’re skipped automatically, and the dashboard is created without them.

When you save a dashboard as a template, the embed code stays as it is, even if it contains brackets like {{ }}.

It doesn’t support viewing details or CSV, and in the PDF, placeholder text shows in its place.

If something goes wrong

What you see
Why
What to do
“You don’t have permission to add HTML embeds.”
Your role doesn’t have “Embed custom HTML in dashboards”.
Ask the owner for it, or use a URL embed.
“This HTML is too large.”
It’s over 512 KB.
Shorten the code, or host it as a page and use a URL.
Duplicating a dashboard with HTML widgets fails
You don’t have the permission, so the copy is refused.
Ask for it, or ask someone who has it to duplicate the dashboard.

Good to know

The code can be up to 512 KB, counted in bytes. Arabic text reaches the limit faster than English text of the same length.
