Your plan’s WhatsApp session limit

Your plan sets how many WhatsApp Web numbers can be linked at the same time, and you can raise it by adding sessions. A session only counts once a number is linked to it.

3 min

How is the limit counted?

The number you’re allowed = your plan’s limit + the active session add-ons in your subscription. Only the WhatsApp Web sessions you’ve actually linked count. A session that’s waiting for a scan, or that was deleted, doesn’t count, and WhatsApp Cloud, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok sessions aren’t part of this limit.

When is it applied?

Moment
What happens when you’ve reached the limit
Creating a new session
Creating it is refused
Asking for a pairing code
The request is refused before the code is typed
Scanning a QR code
The number is disconnected, the session goes back to Scan QR, and you get a notification
A session that was linked before reconnects
It always comes back, even if the plan was downgraded

Downgrading your plan doesn’t disconnect any linked number. But you can’t link new numbers until the count drops below the limit.

To raise the limit, upgrade your plan or add sessions from your subscription, or delete a session you don’t need.

If something goes wrong

What you see
Why
What to do
“Plan limit reached” when creating a session
Your linked sessions equal the limit.
Delete a session, or add a session to your subscription.
The scan is refused after creating the session
Another session was linked in the meantime, so the limit filled up.
The same as above.

A real example

Shield Security Co.
The situation

Their plan allows 2 numbers, and they want a 3rd one for the maintenance department.

What they did
  1. They tried to link it and got a notification that they’d reached the limit.
  2. They added a session from the subscription page, then scanned the code.
The result

The 3rd number was linked straight away.

A made-up company, to show the idea. The numbers are rounded.

Good to know

The limit only covers linked WhatsApp Web sessions.
WhatsApp Cloud sessions have no session limit in your plan.
