The Weighted Fair method: exact shares over time

You give each employee a share, and each client goes to whoever is furthest below their share so far. Over time, the result matches the shares exactly. The recommended choice for shares.

4 min

Lead distribution is a paid Add-on. If you can’t find it in your account, contact support to turn it on.

How it chooses

The shares: A = 60%, B = 40%. A has gotten 3 and B 1 (4 in total). A’s actual share is 75%, above their share, and B’s is 25%, below theirs. The next client goes to B.

On a tie, the one higher on the list is chosen. The first client in a new rule goes to the employee with the highest share.

Absence and making up

If an employee isn’t eligible (outside their hours, or full), the shares are split among those present. When they’re back, they’re far below their share, so they get more until they catch up.

The counts start when the rule is created and are never reset. An employee added later starts from zero, so they get a run of clients in a row until they come close to their share. If you don’t want that, create a new rule.

Manual distribution through the rule counts toward the counts. An assignment by the fallback doesn’t.

When to use it

When you want different shares and need the numbers to hold up in weekly and monthly reports.

The situation

Shares of 30/30/20/20 with the Percentage method gave one employee 35% in a week.

What they did
  1. They changed the method to Weighted Fair with the same shares.
The result

By the end of the week, the gap from the target shares was one or two clients.

A made-up company, to show the idea. The numbers are rounded.

Good to know

Shares are between 1 and 100 for each employee, and the total is exactly 100.
The counts add up from when the rule was created.
