How post comments show up as chats

Every top-level comment on a post becomes a chat, and the replies join it. You see the post card above the thread, and reply publicly or privately from the same place.

5 min

Steps

1
Choose the Comments type in the filters to see comment threads only.
2
Open the thread to see the post card: the link, the text and the image.

Where comments come from

Channel
Comments that arrive
Facebook
Comments on the page’s posts.
Instagram
Comments on posts and live videos. Comments with images arrive as text only.
TikTok
Comments on your videos, text and emoji only.

Merging a comment with the private chat

If the person has a private chat with you, their comments move into it. On Instagram and TikTok this happens automatically. On Facebook it happens after the first private reply, and their earlier comment threads are merged into the private chat.

Records

The person who comments becomes one record in the unit linked to the session, with a source such as instagram_comment. Your page’s replies don’t create records.

Changes made on the platform itself

Channel
What shows in Corteksa
Facebook
Hiding, unhiding, deleting and editing all show.
Instagram
Deleting on Instagram doesn’t show.
TikTok
Deleting shows, and hiding doesn’t.

Comments don’t open the messaging window. Comment permissions are the same as the channel’s permissions in the chats matrix.

If something goes wrong

What you see
Why
What to do
Comments don’t arrive
The session is connected for messages only, or comments are turned off.
A comment you deleted on Instagram still shows
Instagram doesn’t send a delete notice.
Typing normally in the comment thread doesn’t work
The thread isn’t a private chat.
Use the public or private reply.

A real example

Namaa Academy
The situation

The course ad post collected 200 comments, and some of those people messaged the page too.

What they did
  1. The team filtered for comments on Instagram.
  2. Comments from people who had messaged the page showed inside their private chat.
The result

Each employee answered each person once, instead of replying to their comment and their message separately.

A made-up company, to show the idea. The numbers are rounded.

Good to know

The platforms support one level of replies, so all replies join the top-level comment’s thread.
Comments only arrive if you allowed comments when you connected.
