Widget basics: unit, measure, date and filters
Most widgets ask the same questions: which unit? What do we measure (count, sum, average…)? On which date? With which filters? Understand these four once.
Before you start · for owners and managersEdit access to the dashboard
- You need: Edit access to the dashboard
1. The unit
You choose one Cortex Unit (such as Deals). You must be able to see it yourself to save the widget.
2. The measure
The field must be numeric: a number, a currency, or a smart calculation or rollup field whose result is a number (Smart fields: calculation, rollup, lookup, serial number, catalog).
3. The base date
Each record widget sets the Date field that the dashboard’s date range applies to: Created, or any date field in the unit (such as the close date). “This month’s deals” by creation date isn’t the same as “deals closed this month”.
4. Widget filters
Fixed conditions that belong to the widget: a field + an Operator + a Value, such as “Stage is Won”. The dashboard filters that the viewer changes are applied on top of them. The operators are the same as in view filters, and some fields don’t accept every operator.
Who can save
When you save, the system checks that the unit and fields exist, that the measure suits the field, and that you can see the unit. When the widget is displayed, each person sees the numbers with their own permissions.
