Record fields in a document, and how each value prints
Every field you insert is replaced by its value from the record when you print. This reference shows how each field type prints, and how to set a text that shows when the field is empty.
Before you start · 1 thing · for owners and managersA template open in the editor
- You need: The permission to edit document templates
- A template open in the editor. See Write the template’s content in the document editor.
Steps
{{.Fallback text for an empty field
If the field is empty or holds only spaces, the fallback text prints. Without fallback text, nothing prints. The value 0 isn’t empty, and prints as it is.
Fallback text doesn’t change what conditional sections decide, because they look at the field’s own value.
Fields you can’t see
A document prints what the person printing it is allowed to see. A field from a linked unit they have no permission on prints empty.
At a glance
55,500.50. The currency symbol doesn’t print, so type it yourself in the text3, not 3.00If something goes wrong
A real example
Some clients have no email, so an empty “Email:” line showed in the acceptance letter.
- They gave the chip the fallback text “Not recorded”.
- The fees field is a currency field, and they typed “SAR” after it in the text.
The letter has no awkward gaps, and the amount shows as 4,500.00 SAR.
