Chart types and when to use each one
New charts come in three shapes: line, column and donut. Area, horizontal bar and pie charts made earlier, or that came with a template, still show. The shape only changes how the data looks; the settings are in Chart a number by category or time, with series and top N.
How it works
You choose the shape when you add the widget (Line chart, Bar chart or Donut chart), or later in Chart type: Line/area makes a line, Bar/column makes columns, and Pie/donut makes a donut.
Charts made earlier, and some charts that come with a template, can be an area, a horizontal bar or a pie. They still show as they are, but these shapes can’t be chosen for a new chart, and once you switch such a chart to another shape, it can’t go back.
In donut and pie charts, zero slices are hidden, and a negative or empty value counts as 0.0%.
Charts print in the PDF as tables with colored bars, not as images (Export the whole dashboard as PDF).
Choose a line for a time axis, columns for categories, and a donut for a small number of categories.
